[STAR TREK] Say one or two bad things about a guy and suddenly people are shocked you saw a movie!
But I did.
Well, most of it. There were things that I saw pulled from OTHER things:
- The Kelvin facing off against Nero in the beginning reminded me a lot of Serenity.
- The big red ball? OH MY. So Alias.
- Ice/Snow monsters with a mentor in hiding? Star Wars!
There were others, I don't remember them all now, but still.
Casting? I was iffy on casting, not gonna lie. I am not a fan of Zachary Quinto, I'm just not. I don't find him attractive like most people and I really can only associate him with Sylar. So, during those fight scenes with Kirk? I was expecting him to just zzzzzzzzzip - open his head. *shrug* That said? He nailed it. He really did. He looked perfect and really did a great job.
Chris Pine? Smug, arrogant, cocky... oh, hi James Tiberius Kirk. :)
Karl Urban? Get. In. My. Pants. I don't care WHO you're playing, or I wouldn't except... BONES! And oh, wow. I miss DeForest Kelly. ♥
John Cho was a great Sulu (FENCING!) and made me grin. Scottie - Simon Pegg? Same.
Uhura... well. Zoe Saldana is GORGEOUS. Has always been GORGEOUS, will always be GORGEOUS. Not gonna lie (again), but the Uhura/Spock thing kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinda made me go "o.O" for a hot second because... what? SERIOUSLY? But eh. Not my FIRST choice for a pairing, but... eh. It made for good laughs in the movie.
O HAI WINONA. Was I amused that the geeks behind me didn't know that was Spock's mom? YES, YES I WAS!
...
All in all, a decent movie. I liked it. LOVED all the old school lines. Would see again. :)
______
So, as I'm leaving the theater, the geeks that had been sitting behind me (after being MUY IMPRESSED with my knowledge on casting) were following me out and talking about T:SCC and I knew enough to go, "Oh, yeah, and new Terminator..." and there was geekage about that, and they were shocked I knew so much. :D
AND THEN, outside one says to another, "No! Only the pilot dies in Serenity. Wash." And I said, "Well, no, Book dies, too. And Mr. Universe." And once they were done being shocked over my knowledge (ONCE AGAIN), the guy says, "Mr. Universe doesn't count. He had to have a robot girlfriend."
So I say to him, "You came to the movies with two of your guy friends. Where's your girl?" And he says to me:
"I don't need one. I got right and left." and holds up his hands. His friends were embarrassed, right? Not me. I was laughing so hard.
I said, "Cannot be mad at the honesty. That's really fantastic."
Seriously. Guy wasn't bad looking AND he just... put that out there. I laughed most of the way home.
