[STAR TREK] Say one or two bad things about a guy and suddenly people are shocked you saw a movie!
But I did.

Well, most of it. There were things that I saw pulled from OTHER things:

- The Kelvin facing off against Nero in the beginning reminded me a lot of Serenity.

- The big red ball? OH MY. So Alias.

- Ice/Snow monsters with a mentor in hiding? Star Wars!

There were others, I don't remember them all now, but still.

Casting? I was iffy on casting, not gonna lie. I am not a fan of Zachary Quinto, I'm just not. I don't find him attractive like most people and I really can only associate him with Sylar. So, during those fight scenes with Kirk? I was expecting him to just zzzzzzzzzip - open his head. *shrug* That said? He nailed it. He really did. He looked perfect and really did a great job.

Chris Pine? Smug, arrogant, cocky... oh, hi James Tiberius Kirk. :)

Karl Urban? Get. In. My. Pants. I don't care WHO you're playing, or I wouldn't except... BONES! And oh, wow. I miss DeForest Kelly. ♥

John Cho was a great Sulu (FENCING!) and made me grin. Scottie - Simon Pegg? Same.

Uhura... well. Zoe Saldana is GORGEOUS. Has always been GORGEOUS, will always be GORGEOUS. Not gonna lie (again), but the Uhura/Spock thing kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinda made me go "o.O" for a hot second because... what? SERIOUSLY? But eh. Not my FIRST choice for a pairing, but... eh. It made for good laughs in the movie.

O HAI WINONA. Was I amused that the geeks behind me didn't know that was Spock's mom? YES, YES I WAS!

...

All in all, a decent movie. I liked it. LOVED all the old school lines. Would see again. :)

______

So, as I'm leaving the theater, the geeks that had been sitting behind me (after being MUY IMPRESSED with my knowledge on casting) were following me out and talking about T:SCC and I knew enough to go, "Oh, yeah, and new Terminator..." and there was geekage about that, and they were shocked I knew so much. :D

AND THEN, outside one says to another, "No! Only the pilot dies in Serenity. Wash." And I said, "Well, no, Book dies, too. And Mr. Universe." And once they were done being shocked over my knowledge (ONCE AGAIN), the guy says, "Mr. Universe doesn't count. He had to have a robot girlfriend."

So I say to him, "You came to the movies with two of your guy friends. Where's your girl?" And he says to me:

"I don't need one. I got right and left." and holds up his hands. His friends were embarrassed, right? Not me. I was laughing so hard.

I said, "Cannot be mad at the honesty. That's really fantastic."

Seriously. Guy wasn't bad looking AND he just... put that out there. I laughed most of the way home.

Yes. This. Though at the same time it makes my inner Midalah character do an ew gross dance because I use Karl as the PB for her brother, Rand. ;-)

I saw it this morning, and I really liked it, too! I'm not gonna lie, I've had a HUGE CRUSH on Chris Pine for a long time, and I did drool over him a lot during the movie, lmao. But I thought it was really good.

I haven't seen that one! Or most of his stuff, come to think of it. But still. I wasn't excited about this Star Trek movie AT ALL until I saw he was in the cast. Then I totally wanted to see it. ;)

It's hilarious ... soooo funny. Look up the trailer on youtube, and I guarantee you you'll want to see it. Ohhh, lol. I was WAY excited to see Star Trek ... but that's probably because I'm a huge nerd. HUGE nerd. I'm a Battlestar Galactica fangirl, too, obviously by how BSG centric my journal is, lol.

I'm saving this comment to remember to look up the trailer. :D

I'm a huge Star Trek fan too, but I'm not so big on TOS and thought they were gonna shoot themselves in the foot with this movie like the last one and was grumbly about it. I was so glad to be wrong!

Yes, finally! Someone else who's not a fan of Zachary Quinto. I just did not see half the cast fitting into Star Trek (like Winona Ryder haha, my friend didn't know it was her til I told her later), but they totally did! And Kirk's mom is Allison Cameron on House. *facepalm* yeah. anyway.

See? Not so bad. :D You're right about the red matter ball totally being from Alias. XD Sydney Bristow should've busted in there, really...

I'm not a fan either. And I was highly offended that he was playing Spock right until I got into the movie and he sort of won me over.

Still not a fan. But dude pulled off Spock.

He really did pull off Spock quite well. He almost looks better with Spock's haircut than the one he sports for Sylar, doesn't he?

Glad to meet someone else who isn't falling at Quinto's feet. ;)

.....I want an icon of Jumping Chekov D: D: D: And clapping Bones and Scottie.

Also? Spock/Uhura was totally like "...........wut?" I mean, Spock getting some? Nothing wrong with that, but with Uhura? I was just...not expecting that.

I loved Chekov in the movie too. He was all "17" and total genius. I want to take him home.

And for all the "Red Matter? wtf?" moments?

I wanted to box it up and ship it to my God, aka George Lucas, with a giant note that reads: DIS IS HOW YOU DO PREQUELS HOMG.

Definitely a good, fun, adventure movie with some funny moments. The Spock/Uhura thing was the one thread I could have done totally without (or, you know, they could have spent some more time on it to make it make sense). Otherwise, very strong.

So, lemme get this straight... you participated in an Abrams-fest... and liked it?

I'm glad to hear it, actually. I'm pretty sure there was nothing about this movie that I didn't love.
